Overview

A design classic. The Lamy 2000 was conceived in 1966 by Gerd A. Müller, and to this day remains unchanged from his original design. The innovative fibreglass body keeps down weight and is finished with a sleek brushed texture, while the tapered profile produces an exceptionally comfortable feel. Famous advocates include author Neil Gaiman, who describes his own 2000 as his 'novel writing pen'. Like all the finest fountain pens, this one features a platinum-plated solid 14k gold nib.

Key Features

  • 14 ct. gold nib, platinum coated
  • Piston operated filling system
  • Fibreglass and stainless steel, matt brushed finish
  • 2 years international warranty

Lamy, the iconic German brand founded in the 1930s, has earned a reputation as the ‘writers pen’. Adhering to Bauhaus design (form follows function), they have focused on smooth writing and ergonomic features coupled with sleek, simple lines. Their fountain pens are available in a huge range of nib options including those for beginners and left handers, making them ideal for younger writers (Safari is recommended by schools). They offer one easy-change nib to fit the Safari, Al-Star, ABC, Studio and 5 more models.

I'm very pleased with my purchase. It writes beautifully. The fine nib allows you to write with small characters if necessary but the while the line is fine it is very clear and distinct. As others have pointed out it is not necessarily the smoothest flow you will ever get but it is one of the most satisfying. It is a comfortable grip that requires very little downward pressure to write continuously and its weight seems just right. The cap is well designed it closes securely and the clip feels very good too.

My other half so far is thrilled with her Lamy 2000. I haven't tried it myself, but she seems to like it a lot and in the end that's what counts. It seems to have a pretty decent ink capacity too. She just refilled it for the first time after about two weeks use at work, where she uses it extensively for note taking. We're using Pearle Noire (black) ink, by J. Herbin with the Lamy (Fine nib) and it seems to work fine. Only outstanding comment I have is that the 2000's Fine nib does seem noticeably finer than my two Lamy Safari Fine nibs, so be mindful when you choose your nib size. My wife seems happy with the nib though and says its very smooth. She hasn't complained about the pen having a too narrow writing angle (as some people complain about this pen on online reviews). I'm nearly tempted to get one myself now to take to Uni!! (but that wouldn't be very reasonable of me... lol)
