Why Handwriting Is Cutting Through the Noise in 2026
I recently read of a story from Jamie Laing, founder of Candy Kittens and ex Made in Chelsea star, that he had received a handwritten letter from a graduate looking for work, he was so impressed he immediately hired him! And a few months ago Lionel Messi resigned from the national Argentinian football squad with a handwritten note that made front page news.
It got me thinking while the rest of the world fires off emails between meetings, a growing number of people are reaching for a pen instead, and the results are stopping people in their tracks!
The data backs this up. With an estimated 347 billion emails sent daily worldwide, 67% of consumers feel overwhelmed by digital communications, according to Deloitte research. Against this backdrop, something written by hand doesn't just stand out - it literally stops people, calling for them to become present and demand their attention. Handwritten envelopes achieve 99% open rates versus roughly 20% for standard email marketing.
At Pen Heaven we believe receiving something handwritten in 2026 is highly nostalgic. It tells you immediately that someone stopped, thought, and made a deliberate effort, it says: you mattered enough for me to actually sit down and write.
So we fully support the writing movement! Pick up pen, find some paper or a card and get back to putting pen to paper.
As Jamie said “My inbox might be busy but my letterbox is always open."
