Sheaffer has a proud heritage, written by a steady stream of iconic pen collections. Consequently the Sheaffer range has a classic and elegant quality, influenced by the design of the early to mid 1900s. Sheaffer's trademark is a white dot, very often seen on the top of the pen clip. Sheaffer's commitment to quality is proven by their lifetime warranty on all products.
The Sheaffer Pen Company was founded in 1912 by Walter A. Sheaffer in Iowa, USA. He designed and patented a pen filling apparatus that used levers in 1908, and he continued to develop more filler systems for his fountain pens. Both the Touchdown Filler (1949) and the Snorkel extending filler tube (1952) permitted bottled ink to be used without dismantling the pen.
In 1922 Sheaffer produced its own range of bottled inks, called 'Skrip Ink'. It was intended to flow more smoothly and blend more easily than other inks. In 1924 Sheaffer introduced coloured pens for the first time, as previously most fountain pens were black hard rubber. The introduction of coloured pens was very popular and by 1925 Sheaffer had 25% of the US pen market. It was at this time that Sheaffer introduced its trademark white dot.
