Buyers Guide > Pens for Left Handers
Left handed writers face several problems that right-handers do not, such as smudging, scratchy handwriting and writing strain. As we have become more aware of the large number of left-handers (about 10% of the population), various products have come on the market to help.
The Yoropen is an ergonomic pen designed for more natural and comfortable writing. It was designed with left-handers in mind, and has been endorsed by several handwriting experts. A problem for left handed writers is that they have to push the pen across the page towards their body, which is a tiring and awkward movement. The Yoropen changes the angle at which you write meaning less pressure is applied to the paper. This in turn helps reduce writing strain.
Left handers tend to hook their hand over the top of what they are writing, causing smudging. The Yoropen solves this problem by adding a finger support which stops the fingers slipping down the pen. This helps prevent smudging because the fingers do not drag along the paper. Left handers also tend to cover up what is being written with their hand. Consequently the left handed writer will need to stop more frequently to review the content of what he has written. Conversely a right handed writer can maintain the flow of writing whilst reviewing what has been written. The Yoropen makes it easier for left handers to see what they are writing by adding a visual space. |
Writing with a fountain pen can be a real problem as left handers push the pen across the page, rather than pulling it, which leads to difficulty with ink flow and scratchy handwriting.A left handed pen has the nib specially cut to avoid these problems. A major German pen brand called Online has various left handed fountain pens that also feature soft touch ergonomic grips.
