Fountain Pen Nibs

A fountain pen nib is the part of the fountain pen that draws ink from an internal reservoir through a feed inside the pen. The nib width refers to the thickness of the writing line. A medium nib will suit most peoples’ writing styles, but see below to see if an alternative nib width will be best for you.

Broad nibs

Generally speaking, a broad nib will suit people with larger handwriting styles or signatures. Lamy nibs have an approximate line width of 1.0mm, though this will largely depend on the amount of pressure exerted on the paper when writing.

Fine nibs

A fine nib typically produces a sharper, clearer line though this may not suitable people with large handwriting. The Lamy nibs will produce an approximate line width of 0.3-0.5mm, again, depending on the pressure exerted.
