Lamy is a major German design brand with international prominence. The brand’s underlying principle is that form follows function, and were heavily influenced by the Bauhaus movement (a modern approach to design that operated between 1919 and 1933). Lamy stands for innovation, quality and modern design. They were established in 1930 by C. Josef Lamy, a sales representative for The Parker Pen Company, in Heidelberg Germany. From the outset they proved their innovative prowess with the groundbreaking Lamy 27 fountain pen series. They were also a pioneer in the use of moulded synthetic plastics to make their products.

Numerous designs in the Lamy product range have won awards. The Pico has won a red dot award for design, and the Studio has won both the ‘Good Design Award’ and the iF Design award in 2005. Many of the designs such as the 2000 (since 1966) and Safari (since 1980) have been implemented continuously since their inception. The 2000 was innovative for its day because it used a special fibre glass resin produced by Bayer, Makrolon. Several noted designers have produced pen designs for Lamy, including Richard Sapper (designer of the ThinkPad) who designed the Dialog1.
Lamy are particularly well known for their multifunction pens, as well as the Safari pen which has a unique ergonomic grip and is recommended for children. Their range is extensive and includes a unique pocket pen, as well as a capless rollerball. Click here to read more at the Lamy Website
